There are some days where I miss all my favorite dishes more than others. On those days, I like to whip up recipes that make it feel like I’m not missing out.
For example, I have missed my Girl Scout cookies this year. However, I ended up with these delicious Keto Tagalongs and Haystacks because of it. So, each time I have a craving, I do my best to change that craving into a brilliant recipe to replace it.
I used to love the Bonefish Grill Bang Bang Shrimp dish. I still do and it’s not a terrible option when it comes to eating healthy. However, I thought a fun twist was in order and that’s when
I came up with this Keto Bang Bang Cauliflower recipe. It definitely doesn’t replace shrimp, but it’s perfect as a side dish, snack, or appetizer. You can even use the sauce and replace the cauliflower with shrimp!
How to Make Keto Bang Bang Cauliflower
- Prep - In a small bowl, whisk the egg and cream together. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and cheese. Set both aside. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Coat - Dip the cauliflower pieces in the egg mixture, shake, and coat in the cheese mixture. Place on the baking sheet.
- Fry - Heat the oil and fry your cauliflower until golden brown. Place on a paper towel to drain.
- Make the sauce - In a small bowl, whisk together all the ingredients for the sauce and pour it over the finished cauliflower as desired. Enjoy!
Tips and Variations
- Storage - Store in a sealed container, in the fridge, for up to 3 days. Store in an airtight container, in the freezer, for up to 2 months.
- Reheating - Reheat using a saucepan or the microwave.
- Use shrimp instead of cauliflower - You can always make the bang bang sauce and soak shrimp in it before cooking them up. It’s a delicious way to switch things up.
- Use sour cream in place of mayonnaise - If you don’t prefer mayonnaise, you can use sour cream in its place. They’re very similar, although their flavors will differ quite a bit.
- Make it less spicy - If the spice is a little much for you, simply remove the sriracha sauce and it will cut down on the heat considerably.

The original sauce was made by Bonefish Grill for their famous bang bang shrimp. The basic ingredients of this sauce are mayonnaise, sriracha, sweet chili sauce, and honey.
However, since it was made famous, bang bang sauce has been made a few different ways and can vary from recipe to recipe. Of course, you have to be careful with these ingredients when on keto.
This is because sweet chili sauce usually has sugar and honey isn’t the best option on keto. Swapping them out or using a keto version is important to the success of ketosis.
What are the Benefits of Eating Cauliflower?
Cauliflower basically has very little carb and calorie content. This makes it a healthy option in general. However, to get more specific, cauliflower is high in antioxidants, choline, and fiber.

Bang Bang Cauliflower Recipe
Ingredients:
- About ½ of a large head of cauliflower
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp heavy cream
- Fresh parsley finely chopped
- 1 cup superfine almond flour
- 1 cup finely grated parmesan cheese
Bang Bang Sauce Ingredients
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp chili paste
- 1 tsp sriracha
- 1 tbsp granular erythritol
- 1 tsp lime juice
Instructions:
In a small bowl, whisk egg with heavy cream. Set aside.
In a medium size baking bowl whisk together almond flour and cheese. Set aside.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Dip cauliflower in the egg wash. I put a few pieces in at a time and used a spoon to coat the cauliflower. After it is fully coated, shake it a few times, to shake off any excess egg dripping back into the bowl before adding it to the breading.
You don't want the egg dripping going into the breading since the moisture will cause the breading to clump and it will be harder to stick to the cauliflower.
Place the cauliflower piece into the bowl of breadcrumbs, use your fingers to apply a little pressure so the breading sticks to the cauliflower.
Once coated, set the cauliflower onto a clean baking sheet. Repeat with remaining cauliflower.
To deep fry the cauliflower, pour cooking oil into a pot. When the oil reaches 350F, gently add a few pieces of breaded cauliflower, stir the cauliflower a few times to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Cook until a deep golden brown. Remove cauliflower and place onto a paper towel-lined plate. Repeat with remaining cauliflower.
To make the Bang Bang sauce
- Add all sauce ingredients into a small bowl, whisking until smooth. Taste and adjust as needed. If you prefer less spicy you can use less sriracha.
- Drizzle Keto Bang Bang sauce over cauliflower. I have found it’s better to drizzle the sauce over the cauliflower to prevent the breading from getting soft from the sauce.
- Garnish with parsley. Serve immediately.
