How to Make Keto Chocolate Glazed Donuts
- Prep - Preheat the oven to 325 and grease your donut pan.
- Mix - Mix and combine all of your dry ingredients, then stir in and mix all of your wet ingredients.
- Bake - Evenly distribute batter and bake in the oven for 16-20 minutes. Remove and cool on a cooling rack for 5 minutes.
- Make the glaze - Melt coconut oil and chocolate chips in the microwave until melted. Add sweetener and vanilla extract and whisk together.
- Top the donuts - Dip the tops of the donuts in the chocolate. Let harden for 30 minutes. Enjoy!
Tips and Variations
- Storage - Store Keto glazed donuts in a covered container at room temp for up to 3 days. Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Store in an airtight container, in the freezer, for up to 3 months.
- Reheating - It’s best to let these keto donuts thaw on their own since reheating them will cause the glaze to melt. However, if you really want your donut warmed up, opt for the microwave and just deal with the sticky glaze.
- Make a different flavor glaze - If you want just a classic glaze, just use some almond milk and powdered sugar substitute. If you want to make the glaze a specific flavor such as lemon, orange, birthday cake, etc. you can add a teaspoon of extract in that flavor.
- Add chopped nuts - If you want to go a step further, you can always add chopped pecans, walnuts, or even almonds to the top or batter of your chocolate donuts.
- Make it vegan - If you want to make these donuts vegan-friendly, simply swap out the eggs and butter. You’ll want to use vegan butter and either swap the eggs for 2 cups unsweetened applesauce or 4 flax/chia seed eggs.
- Why does it call for coffee? - You definitely don’t have to use coffee in this chocolate doughnut recipe. However, coffee will amp up the taste of the chocolate. It just makes it more rich, although, it’s not absolutely necessary for a good donut.
Common Questions About Keto Glazed Donuts
Why is My Glaze Not Hardening?
You can top your desserts with all kinds of things, like glaze and icing. There are differences between them. Icing hardens as it dries.
Glaze, however, might take more time due to its lower sugar content, so there isn't as much sugar to crystalize and stiffen things up. In other words, give it longer to harden!
What Are the Three Basic Ingredients in Glaze?
There are usually only two main ingredients in glazes; powdered sugar and milk. There are some other ingredients you can use instead of milk, like butter or cream cheese. Each glaze or icing recipe will differ.

1/3 cup coconut flour
1/3 cup Swerve Sweetener
3 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
4 large eggs
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
6 tbsp. brewed coffee or water - coffee intensifies the flavor of the chocolate
Chocolate Glaze Ingredients:
2/3 cup sugar free chocolate chips
¼ tsp. vanilla extract
3 Tbsp. Swerve Sweetener
1 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 325F and grease a donut pan if needed. I use the Wilton donut pan and they slide right out with no greasing required.
- In a medium bowl, add the coconut flour, sweetener, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, whisk until well combined. Stir in the eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract, stir in the cold coffee or water until well combined.
- Divide the batter and pipe into your donut pan. I find these piping bags make it super simple with less mess. Bake 16 to 20 minutes, until the donuts are firm to the touch. Remove and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then flip the pan and allow to finish cooling on a wire rack.
Chocolate Glaze
- In a shallow bowl, add in the chocolate chips and coconut oil.
- Microwave in 30-second increments until chocolate chips are melted, add in vanilla extract and swerve sweetener and whisk.
