Don’t sit there missing waffles because you’re on keto, because this Keto Waffles Recipe will fix you right up! Made with few ingredients, this breakfast recipe holds up well in a traditional waffle iron.
With an almond flour base and heavy cream to fluff them up, you’ll be satisfied with every bite.
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. The funny thing is, I don’t end up eating it until like 11 AM though, which makes it more like brunch, right?
Either way, the traditional breakfast foods I can’t help but obsess over. They’re so satisfying and always to have all the best flavors to hit the spot. Just makes for a good day when you start out with comfort food.
Outside of these keto waffles, some of my other favorite keto breakfast recipes are this Chocolate Chip Keto Pancake Recipe and this Keto Breakfast Sandwich. I mean, I don’t think I’ve run across a keto breakfast that I haven’t loved and been head over heels for.
The thing that keeps me going for my keto lifestyle is the fact that I can still have bacon. I’m sure I’m not alone in this sentiment.
How to Make Keto Waffles Recipe
- Prep - Preheat a waffle iron (I used an electric one).
- Make the batter - Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix well.
- Cook - Spray your heated waffle iron with non-stick spray. Spoon about a fourth of the batter onto the iron. Cook until the iron indicates it’s finished. Remove to a plate, and repeat with the rest of the batter.
- Garnish and serve - If desired, top with fresh blueberries, serve, and enjoy!
Tips and Variations
- Storage - You can store the keto waffles mix before it’s been cooked, in the fridge in an airtight container for around 2-3 days. I do not suggest freezing it or leaving it out. To store already made waffles, place them, completely cooled, in a baggie and store in a cool, dry pantry. You can also store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. I wouldn’t suggest freezing these as they kind of fall apart upon reheating.
- Reheating - To reheat this keto waffle recipe, place in the microwave covered by a moist paper towel. This will help keep it from being dry.
- Garnishing ideas - There are countless ways to top keto waffles. I like to use fresh fruit and a little bit of honey. Some people who follow a keto lifestyle don’t like to use honey, and that’s ok too. You can also use a keto-friendly powdered sugar, butter, maple syrup replacement, etc.
- Egg replacement - If you prefer to not use eggs, you can always try oil or unsweetened applesauce instead. I have not tested it with these ingredients, but these are commonly swapped for eggs in recipes all the time.
- Make it vegan - If you would like to make this a completely vegan recipe, swap out the eggs for the suggestions above and use coconut cream in place of the heavy cream.
- Are these waffles gluten-free? - Yes! This keto waffles recipe is naturally gluten-free and vegetarian!
Common Questions About Keto Waffles Recipe
Is Pancake and Waffle Mix the Same?
They are very similar, but no, they’re not the exact same. Waffles are denser than pancakes, which is why they’re able to be made in an iron.
A pancake is too soft and would fall apart in an iron like the ones traditionally used with waffles. In general, the biggest difference is that waffles usually contain more sugar and fat than pancakes.
Why Aren’t My Waffles Crispy?
If you have too much moisture or liquid in your waffle batter, they won’t turn out crispy. Some people like their waffles softer and that’s ok. However, if you want them crispy, you’ll either need to cook them a bit longer or reduce the liquid in your batter.
If you have too much condensation occurring with your waffle iron, they will also turn out soggier and softer rather than crispy and firm. You don’t want overly thin batter with waffles.
