This BLT Wedge Salad is the perfect keto lunch idea. Bursting with flavor, this recipe calls for few ingredients while still being a satisfying option. Instead of skipping a meal to be healthy, throw together this dish instead!
There are so many different ways to make a salad, it’s crazy! It’s so easy to get creative with the ingredients and make it your own as well. I really got into the jar salad trend when it started rolling around.
Mainly because I could make them and toss them in the fridge, then grab them during the day whenever I needed to eat.
This recipe for wedge salad is super simple and just as handy as jar salads. I like to have the ingredients ready to go with the salad wedges already sliced.
This way, I can reach in and throw on whatever I’m feeling for the day. I’m all about those snacks or meals I can quickly grab without throwing myself out of ketosis. Other than this salad, two of my favorites are these Strawberry Fat Bombs and Keto Cookie Dough Fat Bombs.
How to Make a Keto Wedge Salad
- Slice the lettuce - Clean and trim the head of lettuce to your liking. To make the wedge, simply cut the lettuce like you would a cake. Be sure to make the wedges a normal decent size.
- Prep your toppings - Fry your bacon then crumble it. Dice the tomatoes and chives.
- Dress the wedge salad - Sprinkle on your Keto Ranch dressing, then follow it with the tomatoes, bacon, cheese, and chives.
Tips and Variations
- Storage - Store ingredients in separate containers, sealed, in the fridge, for up to 5 days. Some veggies may go bad quicker, depending on conditions and their status before they’re stored. Do not freeze this recipe or its ingredients.
- Dressing for wedge salad - I love making my own Keto Ranch Dressing and that homemade dressing is actually what you see in the photos. It’s super easy to make as well. You can always use a drizzle of oil and vinegar as a wedge salad dressing as well.
- Use other ingredients - As I mentioned, the best aspect about salads is the fact that they’re so easy to customize. This wedge is BLT themed, but you can definitely take your own liberties and use the ingredients you enjoy.
- Can I put the dressing on last? - You can put the dressing on whenever you like to. However, just note that wedge salads don’t hold ingredients well due to the way they’re shaped. By putting the dressing on first, you ensure your ingredients will stick to the wedge. You can always put a drizzle on to hold your ingredients then in with another drizzle.
- Can I use something other than iceberg lettuce? - If you don’t prefer iceberg lettuce, simply use another type of green, leafy vegetable that comes in a head like lettuce. Some people enjoy cabbage as well.
- How to keep lettuce crisp? - Try to store it in an airtight container in a crisper. This regulates the temperatures to be perfect for vegetables.
Common Questions About Wedge Salad
What is the Point of a Wedge Salad?
Honestly, there’s no real point to a wedge salad other than it’s easier than shredding lettuce. Truthfully, I hate buying the premade bags of salad because they go bad so quickly.
When keeping the lettuce in wedges or larger portions, it lasts longer, allowing me ample time to use them. I mean, who wants to constantly go to the store for ingredients? Overall, a wedge salad is just another way to eat a salad and has no specific point.
What is a Classic Wedge Salad?
A classic wedge salad is simply a wedge of lettuce with your typical ingredients over the top. The only thing special about it is its presentation. Most salads are served with loose salad pieces, but a wedge salad is served as a wedge. The only thing that’s classic about a wedge salad is the wedge itself.
